Accepting Applications for FSE Student Government Association

It is my privilege to inform you that the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education (FSE) is accepting applications for a seat on the Executive Board for the Student Government Association. Elected Officers must be able to serve a full term from May 1, 2013 - April 30, 2014. The Student Government Association will be comprised of Fischler graduate students and will serve as the voice of the student body while representing the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education.

As a leader within the field of education, within the classroom, and within your community, I encourage you to review the Application here and apply for one of the following elected positions: President, Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Vice President of Judicial Affairs, Vice President of Online Affairs, Treasurer, and Secretary.  Please submit your application, typed response to the application questions, and your biography and photograph via email to gramirez@nova.edu. The instructions are provided within the attached application. All applications must be submitted no later than February 22, 2013 and elections will take place from April 2nd to April 15th, 2013.

ABOUT US

The Abraham S. Fischler School of Education Student Government Association (SGA) serves as the voice of the Graduate Student body at the FSE. As the inaugural Student Government Association at the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education (FSE) at NSU we seek to represent the needs of the graduate student body, to draft and ratify the governing instruments of the SGA, and to be an effective liaison between students, faculty, and administration through open communication and the ability to find and recommend solutions as appropriate.

Fischler School Rose S. Davilmar, M.S., President

As president, Rose S. Davilmar’s responsibilities include serving as the chair of all executive board meetings of the SGA. Additional responsibilities include executing provisions of the established SGA constitution and actions enacted by the body. Davilmar reviews documents kept by the secretary and treasurer to assure clarity and completeness. She also serves as one of the FSE representatives to the NSU PanSGA.

Davilmar is enrolled in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program with a dual concentration in Organizational Leadership and Higher Education Leadership. Her professional background is in law and her passion is education. She is currently an adjunct professor at a South Florida university teaching business administration. She runs a non-profit organization educating kids in Miami-Dade County, Florida and Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Fischler School Tania Hyppolite, M.S.W., Vice President of Legislative Affairs

Tania Hyppolite is responsible for the development and ratification of the FSE-SGA Senate Committee. This includes oversight of correspondence between senators and students regarding concerns, suggestions, or inquiries from FSE graduate students. She serves as liaison between senators and fellow FSE-SGA executive board members regarding matters of student communication and presides over the SGA in absence of the president.

Hyppolite is enrolled in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program with a dual concentration in Higher Educational Leadership and Human Services Administration with a minor in Human Resource Development. She hopes that the integration of her background in social work and psychology with education will assist in forming a career that contributes towards the reform of legislative policy as it pertains to education and labor/employment systems.

Jonathon May’s duties include serving as a point of contact for students about academic integrity and behavioral expectations at NSU. He addresses student questions and concerns about issues of academic integrity. He supports the president and vice president for legislative affairs in all SGA matters.

May is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) with a dual concentration in Higher Education Leadership and Human Resources Development. May currently serves as assistant director of orientation and commuter student involvement at NSU.

Wilma Hodges’ responsibilities include advocating for student engagement in the online learning experience. She chairs the Online Affairs Committee and develops educational briefs for FSE students on issues impacting online education.

Hodges is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program with a concentration in Instructional Technology and Distance Education. She is the recipient of the 2012 Association of Florida Colleges and NSU, FSE Scholars Award. She presently serves as manager of distance learning at Seminole State College of Florida.

Johane Metellus is responsible for the accountability of FSE/SGA funds, preparation, and presentation of budget procedures for student financial accounting. She oversees SGA funds and expenditures and stresses fiscal responsibility, endorses approved expenditures, submits and processes requests and receipts, and attends all executive board meetings.

Metellus is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program with a concentration in Organizational Leadership with a minor in Conflict Resolution. She is the special project manager at NSU, North Miami Beach campus. Her responsibilities include assisting with the identification, evaluation, and execution of prospective partnerships, providing initiative related troubleshooting, coordinating promotion of strategic partnerships, and assisting in helping to maintain a database of all FSE strategic partnerships.
Fischler School Sheldon Jordan, M.S., Secretary

As secretary, Sheldon Jordan is responsible for maintaining accurate written records of all SGA proceedings and making sure that all students have access to pertinent information as it relates to FSE SGA matters. He also works to inform students of events and major changes that affect the FSE graduate student body.

Jordan is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program with a concentration in Instructional Technology and Distance Education. He serves as a Gates Millennium Scholar and is a member of Kappa Delta Pi. He is classroom teacher at the Charter School of Excellence.

Fischler School Names Inaugural SGA Executive Board 
On February 15, 2012, the FSE SGA Executive Board petitioned for full recognition and acceptance within the Nova Southeastern University PanSGA. The FSE SGA was admitted with full acceptance and is now the 18th SGA to be recognized within the PanSGA.

NSU – Tobacco and Smoke Free Campus
As of July 1, 2012 NSU joined nearly 400 U.S. colleges and universities to become a tobacco and smoke-free campus.
NSU faculty, staff and students who want to quit smoking continue to be encouraged to take advantage of the university’s multiple smoking cessation programs and resources which are available year-round.
NSU adopted the new policy to demonstrate its concern for the health of the campus community – for both smokers and non-smokers. For additional information visit www.nova.edu/tobacco-free.

Summer Conference 2013 - Disney's Contemporary Resort
There will be an FSE Student Government Association Senate Interest Meeting during the week of July 14th, 2013 in the Convention Center. All are welcome to attend.

We are currently accepting applications for a 2013-2014 seat on the Abraham S. Fischler School of Education Student Government Association executive board. It is my pleasure to invite you to an Information Meeting to discuss the Student Government Association and the executive board positions (President, Vice President of Online Affairs, Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Vice President of Judicial Affairs, Treasurer, and Secretary). Please stop by the Flight Deck on January 31st, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Enjoy a beverage and appetizer and fill out an application to run for an executive board position.
