Endorsements with a Specialization in Autism (Florida State-Approved)

About the Specialization

The Autism Endorsement Program at Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Fischler School of Education is designed for practicing educators with a certification in special education who are working with autistic children in Florida. The exceptional student education program focuses on understanding the needs, assessment, and intervention of students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The courses in the program meet the Florida Department of Education’s requirements for a teaching endorsement in autism and can only be added on to a teaching certificate in any exceptional student education area.

Official transcript indicating conferral of a bachelor’s degree by a regionally accredited institution (2.5 minimum cumulative grade point average required)

Convenient Delivery Options

Coursework for the Autism Endorsement Program at NSU’s Fischler School of Education is available online and at many of the university’s student educational centers, with a main campus in South Florida. The online delivery option allows students to receive and submit coursework in their special education classes and interact with participants and professors via the Internet. The site-based delivery option for the endorsement program allows students to take classes in the evenings or on weekends in locations near their homes. These distance education options allow international students and busy professionals to complete their programs without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

Faculty

Faculty members for the Autism Endorsement Program are recognized scholars and educators from the Nova Southeastern University Fischler School of Education and other major universities and institutions throughout the country. In addition, many are also highly respected professional practitioners within the special education field. They are carefully selected on the basis of their subject expertise, teaching abilities, and professional involvement. Most important, they are united in their desire to not only educate, but to inspire students to use what they learn to inspire others.

Completion Requirements

Satisfactory completion of all required coursework
Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher

State Requirements for Certification

Courses in the Autism Endorsement Program, state approved in Florida for certification, meet all of the Florida Department of Education requirements for an endorsement in autism, and can only be added on to a teaching certificate in any exceptional student education (ESE) area.
