Educational Specialist in Mathematics Education

About The Specialization

The educational specialist with a specialization in mathematics education at the Fischler School of Education focuses on training educators to develop and administer mathematics programs in K-12 schools, as well as in the areas of middle and secondary school mathematics. The math education degree helps provide educators with skills for assessment, curriculum development, grant writing, and teaching subject areas such as geometry, algebra, and calculus. Course content in this math education graduate program is research-based and infuses best practices in education. .

Practicing mathematics teachers who wish to obtain an Ed.S. in mathematics education and increase their expertise in their current field

Convenient Delivery Options

Coursework in the math education degree program is conducted entirely online. This approach allows all students – including international students and those who don’t live near our South Florida campuses – to receive and submit coursework and interact with participants and professors via the Internet. This distance education option allows busy professionals the option to complete their degree without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

Capstone

This capstone project is the final step in the completion of the program. Graduate students will learn how to write a winning proposal through research and coursework and design a successful mathematics intervention program for their targeted population through both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The major outcome of this capstone will be to develop an actual funding and grants proposal for their school or district.

FACULTY

Faculty members for the Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) program are scholars and educators from the Nova Southeastern University Fischler School of Education and other major universities and institutions throughout the country. In addition, many are also highly respected professional practitioners within computer science education, and are carefully selected on the basis of their subject expertise, teaching abilities, and professional involvement. Most importantly, they are united in their desire to not only educate, but to inspire students to use what they learn to motivate others.

Completion Requirements

Satisfactory completion of all required coursework
Successful completion of the field-based project
Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
Completed application for degree
