Master of Science in Education with a Specialization in Athletic Administration (Degree Only)

ABOUT THE SPECIALIZATION

The master of science with a specialization in athletic administration at the Fischler School of Education prepares educators to become athletic directors or sport managers. This specialization helps provide educators with leadership skills through practical application and broad knowledge of social, political, and economic forces at work in society that affect sports and athletics. Course content in the sports administration graduate program is research based and aligns directly with the professional standards set forth by the Sport Management Program Review Council.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Practicing physical education teachers, coaches, and athletic administrators who wish to obtain graduate degrees and increase their expertise in their current field
OR
Individuals with bachelor’s degrees who wish to obtain graduate degrees and increase their knowledge and skills in athletic administration

CONVENIENT DELIVERY OPTIONS

Coursework in the athletic administration master’s degree program is conducted entirely online. This approach allows students – including international students and those who don’t live near our South Florida campuses – to receive and submit coursework and interact with participants and professors via the Internet. This distance education option allows busy professionals the option to complete their athletic administration graduate program online without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

Applied Professional Experience

The applied professional experience is one of many practical applications included in the athletic administration specialization. This capstone project is the final step in the completion of the program. Conducted in an appropriate educational setting, candidates will maintain a reflective journal and create a file of samples of their students’ work and the assessment instruments used to demonstrate achievement of the state professional and content standards. All applied professional experiences are accompanied by a portfolio detailing the rationale, process, and evaluation of the project.

In addition, many are also highly respected professional practitioners. They are carefully selected on the basis of their subject expertise, teaching abilities, and professional involvement. Most important, they are united in their desire to not only educate, but to inspire students to use what they learn to inspire others.

Satisfactory completion of all required coursework
Successful completion of the Field Experience
Cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher
Completed application for degree
