Master of Science in Education with a Specialization in Educational Media (Degree Only)

ABOUT THE SPECIALIZATION

The master of science degree program in education with a specialization in educational media prepares educators in school library media programs. This specialization provides educators with the skills needed for the development, organization, and management of library media collections and programs, the integration of technology in school library media centers, and the selection of age-appropriate media. Course content is research based and infuses best practices in education.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Practicing school library media specialists who wish to obtain graduate degrees and increase their expertise in their current fields
OR
Individuals with bachelor’s degrees in education fields who wish to obtain graduate degrees and increase their knowledge and skills in educational media

CONVENIENT DELIVERY OPTIONS

Coursework for the educational media specialization is available completely online and at the university’s Student Educational Centers throughout the state of Florida. The online program allows candidates to receive and submit coursework and interact with participants and professors via the Internet. The distance delivery option allows busy professionals to complete their degrees without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

APPLIED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

The Applied Professional Experience is one of many practical applications included in the educational media specialization. Conducted in an appropriate educational setting, candidates create a file of samples of their students’ work and the assessment instruments used to demonstrate achievement of the state professional and content standards.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

Satisfactory completion of all required courses in the specialization
Successful completion of the Applied Professional Experience
Completed portfolio demonstrating competence with the Educator Accomplished Practices (EDU 601 and EDU 602)
Cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher
Completed application for degree
