Coursework for the educational technology specialization is conducted entirely online and at an accelerated pace using a cohort model. Students from various geographic areas are grouped together, depending on their term start, and progress through the six-week program modules together. This approach allows students to receive and submit coursework and interact with participants and professors via the Internet. This distance delivery option allows busy professionals to complete their degree without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

The special topics courses are one of many practical applications included in the educational technology specialization. This culminating experience is the final step in the completion of the program. In Special Topics I, students survey issues in curriculum planning, organization, and design, including programs in elementary and secondary schools, courses of study, teaching and resources, evaluation of curriculum, and curriculum design and delivery. In Special Topics II, students are required to provide an analysis and synthesis of the individual student’s learning experiences through research, evaluation, and practical application of projects, programs, and procedures developed throughout the program of study.

• Satisfactory completion of all required coursework
• Successful completion of the special topics, including the portfolio
• Cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher
• Completed application for degree
