Master of Science in Medical Education

About The Specialization

The master of science in medical education at the Fischler School of Education is designed to help university physician faculty members and community clinical preceptors develop and enhance their professional education and teaching skills, as well as heighten their ability to facilitate the learning process of students and residents. This three-year healthcare program was developed in collaboration with NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. Learning outcomes for the master of medical education program are based on the Professional Competencies for the Teachers of the Twenty-First Century, developed by the Florida Education Standards Commission, Florida Department of Education, Tallahassee, Florida.

WHO SHOULD APPLY
  • Individuals with terminal degrees in any health professions field who wish to obtain master’s degree in medical education

Proof of a terminal degree in any health professions fields (This is a doctorate for most medical and other health care disciplines. Examples of exceptions are physician assistant and nursing faculty when a master’s will be accepted.)

Official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions

Verification letter indicating appointment to the faculty of the applicant’s school

Students may elect to earn a certificate, instead of a master’s degree, by completing only 18 credits from the practicum.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
  • Satisfactory completion of all required coursework
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Completed application for degree
 
Convenient Delivery Options

Coursework for the master of science in medical education is conducted entirely online. This approach allows students – including international students and those who don’t live near our South Florida main campus – to receive and submit coursework and interact with participants and professors via the Internet. This distance education option allows busy professionals the option to complete their degrees without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

 
Faculty
Faculty members for the master of science in medical education are scholars and educators from Nova Southeastern University and other major universities and institutions throughout the country. In addition many are also highly respected professional practitioners, who are carefully selected on the basis of their subject expertise, teaching abilities, and professional involvement. Most importantly, they are united in their desire to not only educate, but to inspire students to use what they learn to motivate others.
