About the Specialization
The master of science in instructional technology and distance education is designed for individuals who want to improve their teaching and/or training skills through the application of instructional theories and practices. This program fosters the development of practical skills in distance education, instructional media, instructional technology, instructional design, and training. The master’s program in instructional technology and distance education focuses on providing practitioners with the opportunity to learn specific skills that can be applied and transferred to the continually evolving process of instruction and serves as a model for how distance teaching and learning systems can operate.

Who Should Apply
Practicing instructional designers, trainers, e-learning specialists, media professionals, educators (teachers, media specialists, and administrators) at all levels, information specialists, government and business training specialists, instructional technologists, curriculum developers, staff development personnel, and coordinators of distance education programs who wish to obtain graduate degrees and/or increase their level of expertise in their current field

Individuals with bachelor’s degrees in any field who wish to obtain master’s degrees and/or increase their level of expertise in instructional technology and distance education

Entrance Requirements
Completed admission application packet, including $50 nonrefundable application fee made payable to Nova Southeastern University

Official transcripts indicating conferral of a bachelor’s degree by a regionally accredited institution (minimum 2.5 grade point average required) or the completion of one of the alternative admission requirements

Official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions

Three letters of recommendation from an individual who can attest to the applicant’s ability to succeed in a master’s program

FOR NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS
Applicants whose native language is not English are required to demonstrate English proficiency by providing proof of a minimum score of 213 on the computer-based or 550 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam or 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Students taking classes in certain FSEHS international clusters may be exempt from submitting MAT, GRE, and TOEFL scores. Please contact a FSEHS enrollment representative regarding requirements for your international cluster.

Convenient Delivery Options
Coursework in the master of science in instructional technology is available completely online. The online program allows students to receive and submit coursework and interact with participants and professors via the Internet. This distance delivery option allows busy professionals to complete their degrees without having to leave their jobs or travel long distances.

In addition to coursework, all master of science in instructional technology and distance education students are required to travel to campus for a one-day orientation.

Doctoral Studies Orientation
Students will be required to attend an on-campus Doctoral Studies Orientation (DSO) at the outset of their master’s program.  This seminar conducted at the Davie campus includes hands-on orientation to technology, distance/electronic library services, applied research workshops, orientation to concentrations and to student services including the bookstore, financial aid, and student identification cards. Students should register for DSO 8000 prior to beginning their first master’s course. Master of science in instructional technology and distance education students are only required to attend the Friday section of the Doctoral Studies Orientation.

Portfolio
The portfolio is one of many practical applications included in the master of science degree in instructional technology and distance education. This capstone project is the final step in the completion of the program. The portfolio activity requires students to collect, reflect, and comment on the learning materials created during the program. The student portfolio demonstrates the competencies gained during the program.

Satisfactory completion of all required courses

Successful completion of the portfolio

Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
