Initiative Goals and Activities Summary

Goal 1:  Support Student Preparation and Improve Retention and Graduation Rates

  1. Develop effective intake assessments for graduate students
  2. Create Course:  EDD 8000: Foundations of Graduate Studies in Education to address both development  as well as preparation for graduate program success
  3. Support “warm connection” strategies for prospective and new Fischler students
  4. Increase number of  regional Doctoral Success & Dissertation Completion Workshops

Goal 2:  Provide Increased Student Mentoring, Support, and Outreach

  1. Create a "Virtual Graduate Success Portal and Faculty Support Portal” to support math, writing, dissertation mentoring, career placement, and provide other resources in both English and Spanish
  2. Support Fischler student-student and student-faculty mentoring programs
  3. Establish “Professional Engagement Grants” to promote outreach and professional development for Hispanic and low income Strategic Leadership doctoral students

Goal 3: Increase Retention and Success through Faculty Mentoring and Development

  1. Create a Fischler “Faculty Support Center”, a technology infusion lab with an Instructional Designer and a Lab Coordinator to empower faculty, increase course innovation and student engagement, and enhance the Nova course experience
  2. Support Fischler faculty mentoring programs and intervention strategies to promote student success

Goal 4: Improve Outreach and Reduce Time-To-Degree through Improved Programming

  1. Develop career pathways via “Direct Doctorate” programs
  2. Infuse “Strategic Transformative Leadership” content into the Higher Education concentration
  3. Expand outreach to Hispanic and under served  minority organizations and communities

Goal 5: Conduct Ongoing Continuous Quality Evaluation and Sustainability Planning

  1. Establish baseline data parameters for retention; faculty and student participation in curriculum development, training, and mentoring; students using new and enhanced program and services; and awarding of fellowships
  2. Distribute monthly and quarterly reports reflecting progress on goals and activities for the Project Advisory Committee and administrative review
  3. Develop a sustainability plan for integrating project goals into Fischler systems beyond the grant funding period
